KC Star: KC-area Buses to Provide Free Rides on Election Day

October 24th, 2016

The Kansas City Star reports that buses throughout the Kansas City metro area will be free to ride all day on Nov. 8 — Election Day.

“Exercising the right to vote is so important that we want to make it as easy as possible to get to the polls,” Kansas City Area Transportation Authority President Robbie Makinen said in a news release.

Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Independence are joining in the regional RideKC event to offer free fares all day. KCATA paratransit rides for the disabled also will be free.

Many transit systems nationwide also offer this service to encourage voting, KCATA spokeswoman Cindy Baker said.

For help planning a trip on the bus, people can call 816-221-0660 with their starting address and the address of their polling place. Customers can also plan a trip with Google Transit planner at the RideKC.org home page.
