Democrat Emanuel Cleaver II defeated perennial Republican rival Jacob Turk in the 5th District, which includes most of Jackson and the southern part of Clay counties as well as Lafayette, Ray and Saline counties. Emanuel Cleaver has won re-election to Congress after defeating a familiar Republican foe. Cleaver, a Democrat and former mayor of Kansas City, won his eighth term Tuesday with a win over Jacob Turk.
