Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Like many Americans, I am taking some time today to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King’s life was dedicated to opening American eyes to the horrors of racism and bigotry, while tirelessly working toward his dream of equality and civil rights for all.
In our world and in these times, it can seem like hatred spreads more quickly than love, but when we all stand united and demand a better future, there is no force of evil that we cannot conquer.
One of my favorite of Dr. King’s quotes reflects this sentiment: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
Today, it is our responsibility — and our honor — to keep fighting Dr. King’s fight and continue his work. We can honor his dream by recognizing the inequality and injustice that still exist in our community and working hand in hand with our neighbors toward a better future.
